Busy Day In the Neighborhood

Today was another busy day and although I did not make it to the gym today I got some stuff done that needed to get done and had a little fun too!

Work was packed today with stuff- BizPlan competition and a load of other time consuming/brain numbing tasks. I was so busy that I was over 45 minutes late for my hair appointment (thank you Shaun for not spazzing on me).  I then got my hair cut to a nice summer length so yeah it is sort of sort, but I like it! After the haircut (Josie and I both got one today) we went to my parent's house to help them set up a new fax/scanner/printer that they bought to replace their old one.

When this was all done Josie and I went to the movies to see Hangover II, it was good but not as funny as the first. I guess sequels of anything -movies or food- are usually not as good as the first one. Take a DoubleStuffed for instance, the first would definitely taste better than the second.

There are so many things that I want to do tomorrow- clean the car, get an oil change, clean Josie's car, go to the gym, mow the lawn, and the list can go on and on. One thing that will definitely get done is to get my capri pants and summery stuff that is in the basement up and to bring my pants to Goodwill. It is now to the point that I can drop my pants at any moment because they are so lose, so I think it is time that I say goodbye to these pants.

Tomorrow I will do a better post, but I am exhausted! Have a good weekend everyone and be safe! <3

Can't Wait for Tomorrow to Be Over

I have been super busy at work this week! It's like Armageddon o work for me right now and a big portion will be over tomorrow and then another portion on Wednesday. Thank God!!!

Today I worked till 4pm, got home and changed, went to my second WW meeting of the week, went to GNC, the Dollar Store, and Stop & Shop, came home unpacked, went to the gym, came home and did the dishes, and then ate my dinner (a Chobani yogurt with Mango- pretty good but very sweet!)

I weighted myself today and I am down seven pounds this week!!! I guess the two weeks of no weight loss has resulted in a good week. Woot woot!

After yesterday's fill fiasco I am left sore on the stomach and on liquids only today. I can't wait for an omelet tomorrow morning when I can eat soft foods again! Ahhhhh, the finer things! LOL!!

Well I am off to bed because I am completely exhausted! Gnite!

My First Fill and Shortly After My First Unfill

Today at 3:30pm I had my first fill at Fairfield County Bariatrics in Fairfield (a truly awesome office). I got weighted and lost about 8lbs since my last weight in there (three weeks ago) and then I got to go and sit on the big chair in the office for my first fill.

Dr. Floch came in and and answered the few questions I had, inspected my scars, and then started prepping  to find my port for the fill. My port was elusive, but eventually he found it and thus began the fill. It was done quickly and he told me that he had put in 4.3; a fair amount I thought. So, I sipped some water and all went down well and I was allowed to leave.

As soon as I started driving I noticed I had a lot of gas, I was burping like a mad woman. This continued for twenty minutes and over this time a pain in the middle of my upper back started- it got intense. When I got to about West Haven I was stuck in traffic and suddenly I felt my mouth was filled with water. Since I was in traffic I opened the door and spit it out- it was a lot. After this I still kept burping, except I was then hiccuping too. After hiccuping for twenty minutes- through all the traffic in New Haven- that is when I decided to call my Doctor. I called and talked to the nurse who immediately handed me off to the Doctor, and I told him my symptoms and he told me to come right back.

I turned around and headed back to Fairfield County Bariatrics- except this time the Norwalk office. Fun fun at 4:30 in the afternoon to be fighting rush hour Fairfield County traffic! I got to about Milford and then I felt (very quickly too) that I was going to throw up, so I cut over three lanes and got into the breakdown lane. I hopped out of my car and was trying to get to the other side, so as few passerbys would be me upchucking on the side of the road as possible. Well, I got to my trunk and up it came- a very little bit of water and that was it. I was throwing up the sips of water that I had taken ten minutes ago. Que????

After the Milford incident I got back in the car and drove (burping and feeling miserable) all the way to exit 16- Norwalk! I got to office and let myself in, I found Dr. Floch in the back and he was soooooo sweet. Dr. Floch asked me how I was doing and I told him about my "trip". He said he would give me an unfill- as he was finding my port again and pushing on my stomach I suddenly felt like I was going to vomit again. He quickly gave me a little bed pan to puke in and gave me a complete unfill (he left a little in, but he said I am pretty much at no restriction).

It was amazing, within a minute my back pain was gone (which Dr. Floch explained to me was an esophogus spasm).  I was able to keep down two cups of water. I was burping and had this weird stretchy feeling in my front esophgus area. It has now been four hours and I have had a cup of metamucil w/ water and a bottle of plain water with no complications or pain.

Dr. Floch explained to me that at my next fill we will take it slower and that I must just be sensitive. I told my Mom this and she said "I could have told you that, you have been sensitive since you were a little kid". I appreciate the care and attentiveness that Dr. Floch showed me during this ordeal and I hope that my next fill is more successful.

Dr. Floch also told me that I can have 800-1000 calories per day and I can have 2 "100 calorie" snacks per day (like yogurt or protein in general). So, at least I have a clear answer to my calories and snack questions. I have my next fill scheduled for June 29th at 11:30am (summer time....woot woot), so hopefully I don't need a fill until then (I would need one b/c of extreme hunger or no weight loss). I figure I have been without a fill for the past month and have not been dying so I can make it.

Tomorrow I am going to go to the gym, I didn't get to today because of my travels around CT. And I am going to go to another Weight Watchers meeting, I feel as though WW meetings are my AA. Tomorrow I will be on a full liquid diet and then on Friday/Saturday I will be on soft foods. Then on Sunday or Monday, if my stomach is OK by then, I am going to try to eat some fresh lobster meat! I have been looking forward to it for a while.

Today I ate an omelet for breakfast with 1oz chicken cut up with .5oz of shredded cheese. For lunch I had Cajun Spiced Chicken (3oz) and 1oz of sweet potatoes with a smidgen of butter on top. Then for dinner I had liquids- water and one glass of Metamucil.

That was my day in a nutshell and the journey of my first fill and then unfill. Hope you enjoyed the story of my semi-painful evening. Goodnight.

Weight Watchers, Support Group, Nutritionist, and My First Fill

I decided yesterday that I was going to join Weight Watchers. I went to my first meeting this evening and enjoyed it. I need the meetings, I need the accountability, I need the tips, I need the behavior modifications that WW offers, and I need the "meeting" atmosphere. That is why I joined WW again, for the last time, because this time it is different- as is everything. I have no choice this time. I have all the tools at my disposal now I just need to change myself and my feelings surrounding food and all will be good. I will become a Lifetime member of Weight Watchers and I will succeed.

Now, I will fully admit that I am using Weight Watchers for their meetings, their behavior modifications, and for their healthy eating guidelines; but I know that I will not be able to follow the points system specifically right away. I have special circumstances with the band and that is not an option right now, and that is fine. I will attend the meetings (I am thinking at minimum two per week) and I will continue to track my diet and exercise with LoseIt.com; although I may also try to track with WW's tracker.

I think that between two WW meetings per week, the monthly WLS Support Group at Norwalk Hospital, my Nutritionist visits (about every six weeks), my various support systems, and my wonderful partner and family I will be good. I feel this part is just as important as any other part to this healthy lifestyle change. I need to address my emotional attachments to food as well as find modifications to my behavior so that I can have a normal relationship with food.

One thing that remains the same is that I think that sugar and white flour are big ol' devils in white dresses. I will not tempt myself with any of these for a long while, I have no room for them in my life and really I feel a lot better without them in my system.

Finally, my first fill is tomorrow in Fairfield. I am hoping for a conservative fill, I don't want anything too  drastic too soon. I also am able to go about three to four hours between meals without getting hunger pains, so we will see what Dr. Floch says. I also have some questions for him about snacking, one of my incision scars, and what constitutes two days of liquids after the fill. I am sure I will get some more questions floating around in my head before tomorrow afternoon.

I will post tomorrow and let you all know how the fill goes. Goodnight everyone. <3

Monday Monday

I went to the gym today with Josie in the evening for an hour and got in a solid 45 minutes on the treadmill with my new sneakers. I have to say I really like my new sneakers even though that reason why I had to get them makes me highly irritated, but I guess that is not this pairs fault.
Nike LunarGlide 2+

Arn't they pretty? In blue, my favorite color!!!!

I made a recipe from this month's Men Health- Curried Chicken.

Ingredients:
2 Chicken Thighs (boneless and skinless and organic)
1/2 cup fat free Chobani Plain Greek Yogurt
3/4 teaspoon Curry Powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon pepper

I chopped up the chicken thighs and put them in a bowl. I then mixed all of the remaining ingredients thoroughly, mixing evenly. I combined both in the big bowl, mixed well, covered, and then put in the refrigerator to marinate while I went to the gym.

When I got back I put a medium fry pan(well "Pammed") on medium-low heat and once heated I put the meat in. The meat cooked for about 4 minutes on one side and 4 minutes on the other. (There was a lot of liquid as I cooked so the second four minutes allotted some time for the liquid to cook into the curried chicken.

I served myself three ounces of the curried chicken with one ounce of sweet potato w/out skin (one of the stick-in-the microwave varieties) and just a smidgen of low fat butter for the potato.
It was divine!!!!

With this recipe I had dinner, lunch for tomorrow, and some for my omelet in the morning!

Not too shabby if you ask me. Cheap, easy, tasty, and lasts a while!

Goodnight everyone! <3

It Has Been A Long Couple of Days

I have been busy the past couple of days! On Thursday I had my fiasco at the gym with my one sneaker and headphone being stolen, then on Thursday night I drove to Norwalk Hospital with Josie for a Nutrition Seminar. Friday I brought my sister my old Dell XPS 420 w/ Monitor and set it up for her, I went to the gym, and bought new sneakers (Nike Lunar Glide +2) at Footlocker in the Westfarm's Mall. On Saturday I worked at the Post Office, had to deal with Josie getting a flat in West Hartford while we were all in OS, waited in OS for Josie to get back with my Mom so we could go to Town Fair, put a deposit on four new tires to be bought in June/July (when we get another 800 dollars for them, WTF), and then watched Josie's niece and nephew. Today, Sunday, I would like to mow the lawn (if the weather cooperates) or at least go to the gym. I need to get some exercise in today as Saturday I did not.

After the recap of my past few days I will tell you a few things lessons learned from the past few days:

  1. Suppositories are not as bad as I thought they would be (yes, I left that part out up above, but I'm sure you get the drift).
  2. Water is extremely important to my digestive health and it must go in for poop to move out!
  3. Do not leave your stuff unattended at the gym (even for a minute).
  4. I should be eating 800 calories a day according to the nutritionist at the Seminar.
  5. I need to cook smaller portions, otherwise I end up eating the same thing everyday, every meal, for half a week! I cook a small portion, but I need to remember I only eat 4oz per meal now so they need to be even smaller.
  6. The Hype Is TRUE! Once you start going to the gym it will make you want to keep going!
  7. When one knows that your tire has a nail stuck in it, don't push it! Bring it right to Town Fair Tire where they can most likely fix it for $5.
  8. When you have to buy four tires it is damn expensive.
  9. AAA Membership is a necessity, especially with how Josie and I drive all over CT.
  10. I have great parents (I knew this, but as my Mom drove 45 minutes to meet Josie in West Hartford on a Saturday afternoon with her AAA card, it was glaringly obvious how much my parents rock!)
  11. Even under times of stress and talking to people I need to make certain I eat slow and consciously. When on the phone w/ Town Fair Tire I ate my 4oz lunch in like 8 bites and it did not take 20 minutes. I was fine, but after my first fill on Wednesday that may not be the case if I do it again.
  12. There is a big difference between Poland Spring Water "Sports Top" Bottles and a Kleen Kanteen Sports Top Bottle.  I had two sips out of the Kleen Kanteen and had instant gas, but with Poland Spring Sports Top I am fine. Interesting.
  13. Nike + Running site is awesome! That site and LoseIt.com are my online and mobile support team.
  14. Be cognizant of other people and their feelings/situations, there is nothing worse than people who are too self absorbed.
  15. Every day be thankful for your life, all that you have, and the opportunity to start a new day with new experiences.
  16. Enjoy your life and your family (family is a loose term to me, it can include blood relatives but also your close friends and people who you choose to be around because you like them and they make you a better person).
  17. This blog has become very important to me, I missed writing and sharing my experiences.
I learned a lot in the past few days and have had a busy few days. I missed blogging for the two days that I didn't get to. Life is all about enjoying the experiences and learning from them. I have definitely learned a lot in the past three or four days.

Thank you for letting me share my life and journey with you. Later today I will share my menu for the day with you.

People at the Gym

I been a non-active member Planet Fitness- North Haven since October of 2010, this week I started to go back to the gym (with much motivation from Josie). After going to four days straight I like it and want to keep going. I am feeling better.

Well, yesterday (Thursday) I went to the gym after work, before my Nutrition Seminar at Norwalk Hospital, and was planning on walking for about 32 minutes(two minutes longer than Wednesday).

I got to the gym, changed, and then had to go to the bathroom. I left my sneakers with my Senheisser foldable headphones in them on the bench by my locker. When I got back to the bench to put my shoes on my right sneaker was gone with my headphone!

WTF! Someone really stole my used sneaker (just one) for my older and obviously used Senheisser headphones! Really? This is my first week back to the gym and now I have to buy new sneakers and headphones?

Well, I spoke with the woman at the desk who said she saw nothing, but was nice and gave me a free lock for the locker. I gave her my name and cell number, called back today and still nothing.

Despite the loss of my possessions and workout time I still went for a walk on the treadmill for 20 minutes instead of my intended 32, but life happens! I hope whoever took it enjoys my headphone and sneaker, I hope the Karma Police catch up with you!

And one question I must ask; why didn't you just take both or just the headphones? Why did you take just one sneaker? You could not have wanted the one sneaker! It was used and size 9.5 in men's( yes I have little hooves!) Why?

I'm baffled and now I am a member of Planet Fitness: Meriden and will lock my shit up from this point forward. A lesson well learned for the gym.

***I thought that I posted this on Friday, but I guess I just saved it as a draft. Sorry***
