Hunger Signs

As I sit here waiting for Josie to wake up and watching Eat, Love, Pray  I have to admit that I am feeling actual hunger signals. My stomach is growling and making noises like it never did before surgery. This is a whole new feeling- true hunger. It's interesting.

On the flip side I am still working on being able to clearly decide when I have hit the "full" marker. I think "full" is when I feel a little weird in the middle of my chest, sort of down below my heart. I think that is when I am "full". I mean I am no longer hungry after a few bites, but it is differentiating between the safe "full" and the stuffed feeling that I am working on. I am a work in progress in this "lifestyle change".

I am excited about my omelet and I think Josie and I are going to the gym this afternoon. I am already working on my water intake (drank 16oz already) and I am continually posting to LoseIt.com. I need to be accountable for my progress and LoseIt.com helps me do that. I can not talk up LoseIt.com enough! It is excellent.

Oh, and one last thing I am really going to start adding in pictures and more videos to the blog. There needs to be a bit more other than words up on here!

Well, have a good Saturday everyone! I know I am going to. <3

Weigh In Thursday

Blogger was down yesterday, so that means that I could not update you all on my progress. I know, how did you make it through the day? Lol.

Well, this week I gained .4 pounds. Now, I have my LoseIt.com account linked with my Facebook so that my badges and my weight loss progress is automatically updated to my Facebook account. This means that when I updated my weight this week and it said that I had gained .4 pounds it was posted to my Facebook account as my status update.

Now, that does not bother me but it makes it look to people like I am all upset about it. And really I am not, I would be happier if I lost weight, but I was expecting to not lose or even gain weight when I switched to real food from an all liquid diet. I received a lot of supportive messages and text messages from this Facebook update, with my friends and family saying that it was OK and that it happens. I know this and to hear it again was great and much appreciated, but I was totally alright with this and I knew it was going to happen.

I understand that at first when I switched to real food from liquids that I might gain weight or that the weight loss will slow down, but I only expect this to keep on for a week or so. I am eating 1000 calories a day at most, so I think that it is only a matter of time before the weight starts coming off again.

And for a bit of what will probably be TMI, but with the new body changes going on two interesting things happened this week. First (and less gross) my under eye rolling lotion that I have used for a year now caused me to break out in a hivey/blistery/painful rash under my eyes this week (real pretty). Fun Fun! Second (the gross part) I have not had a bowel movement since Sunday and have started taking Metamucil to help with this. Please say a quick prayer for me and my intestines to do their job. Amen.

Yesterday I ate:

Breakfast: 2 eggs scrambled with ketchup
Lunch: 1 can light tuna in water with 2 tbsp light mayo
Dinner: 4oz Mexican Salmon
Water: about 50oz
Metamucil, multivitamin, and calcium.

Friday I ate:

Breakfast: 2 eggs scrambled with ketchup
Lunch: 4 oz Mexican Salmon
Dinner: 4 oz flounder (grilled with tomato and cilantro and rubbed with Old Bay) w/ 2 tbs olive oil <see pic below>
Water: about 45oz
Metamucil (x2), multivitamin, and calcium.

I have gotten back into my tea kick, its a nice treat and creates a new routine. The process of boiling the water, getting the teabag, waiting for and coaxing the brewing process, and then enjoying the aroma & taste of my Jasmine Pearl (Tazo Brand that comes in a nice Metal Tin). I am going to have a cup now. Yummy.

And tomorrow morning for breakfast I will have an omelet. One egg with one piece of cheese and a little ketchup/hot sauce.  Yum! Tomorrow I am going to get some spinach for my omelet on Sunday and really spice it up! ooooohhhhh yeah!

Well goodnight and thank you to the wonderful people at Google who got blogger back up and running.

Recipe Wednesday

Sea Bass with Asparagus (from Men's Health Magazine, April 2011)

Ingredients:

2-12 inch squares of aluminum foil
2- 4oz fillets of Sea Bass, halibut, or other firm white fish
12 Asparagus spear tips only
1/8 lb shiitake mushrooms, stems removed
1 tbsp grated fresh ginger
2 tbsp low-sodium soy sauce
2 tbsp mirin or sake
Salt & Pepper to taste

Directions:

1. Preheat the oven to 400 F. Lay the foil pieces on a counter and place a fillet in the middle of both foil pieces. Scatter the asparagus tips, mushrooms, and ginger on top of the fish.

2. Drizzle each fillet with soy sauce and mirin and season with a small pinch of salt and pepper.

3. Fold the foil over the ingredients and crimp the edges to seal. Place the packets on a large baking sheet and bake 20 to 25 minutes, depending on the thickness of the fillets.

Today's Notes

Tomorrow I start the soft food week of my Post-diet experience. That is what inspired the recipe for Sea Bass above, starting tomorrow I can eat fish and chicken and ground turkey/chicken. I can eat non-gasous cooked vegetables. I can eat fruit in juice/splenda type syrup.

The Doctor said that I can now start eating 900-1000 calories per day. This may be a good thing.

Today I ate:

Breakfast: 1 egg with ketchup
Lunch: 3.5 ounces chicken w/ light mayo
Snack: 1/4 cup whipped cottage cheese
Dinner: 1oz mashed potatoes, 4 oz chicken pureed with 1/2 cup mushroom gravy.
Snack: Green tea w/ one Truvia

I am ready for the soft food phase, chewing my food to near puree in my mouth, and taking 20 to 30 minutes to eat my meal. Bring it! Can't wait for a nice omelet this weekend and a piece of fish tomorrow.

Hobby Update 1

I had my Aunt Helen pick me up a book from the library this weekend and I have read a little bit out of the book. I am giving reading a try although really I have a hard time maintaining concentration on a book.

I can not wait for my friend, Steve, to get home (he will be home on Friday). He said he is going to help us with our garden (we want to build a raised bed), making a turn-a-round in our driveway, taking me fishing and clamming, and later this summer taking me crabbing. Yes, I fully plan on keeping Steve very busy and he will hopefully help me flourish with a good summer hobby. I like fishing, but its just that I never seem to actually catch anything besides a sunburn. I really want to try clamming although I have heard that it is messy Steve has reassured me that clamming with him will not be too messy.  So, I have a few potential hobbies with my dear friend Steve.

I took a walk with Josie tonight, so that is a step in the right direction but I still need to make it to the actual gym.  I would like to get into the habit of working out, I know that exercising is an important aspect to losing the weight and keeping it off.

I like cooking and I like blogging, so this will definitely continue to be a big part of my progress and recovery from food addiction. I enjoy cooking I just need to make certain that I focus on healthy ingredients, healthy recipes, and good portion controlled meals.

My Food For Today:

Breakfast: 1 egg w/ ketchup and hot sauce
Lunch: 4oz of chicken w/ mayo (pureed)
Dinner: 1oz mashed potatoes and 3oz chicken with mushroom gravy (pureed)

Exercise: 20 minutes of walking

Well, that is about all the wit and wisdom I have for one night. I am getting ready for bed and then to get my quality eight. Gnite!

Lunch Today

My coworker who has the band and has been very successful with her weight loss gave me some advice today. She has been reading my blog and noticed that I have not been finishing all of my food during my meals.

The advice was that I should make sure I am eating the 4oz of food each meal because otherwise I could end up losing some hair. And this woman can not lose any hair as I am a little light on the hair already. So this got my attention!

At lunch today I ate my entire 4oz of chicken salad. I think I was full, not completely stuffed, but rather full by the end. And I ate it all within 30 minutes. So I am ontrack there.

Now just to work on my water intake.

Till tonight!

Just thought I would add in a little bit of my sexiness to brighten your day!

And yes I am testing out this new blogging app on my iPhone. Ain't no stopping this blogger now!

Hunger vs. Bored

As I was sitting in the car with Josie driving back from Home Depot (quick say something gay, lol) I began to think about my hunger signals now compared to pre surgery. Now when I am hungry it includes stomach growling and a real feeling of hunger, before surgery when I was hungry a lot of the time I think I was just bored or not feeling completely stuffed with food.

When I eat now, I do not get stuffed. I am trying my best to listen to my body for its signals of "full" or "enough" and I think I am sort of getting it. I am eating really slow and usually do not even finish my 4oz of pureed chicken or tuna. I guess it will just take some conscious effort and practice. I need to listen to my body for when it is hungry and when it has had enough. A foreign concept to me, but with practice hopefully it will come to me.

As for my weekly goals: 60oz of water- check. Logged all food into LoseIt.com - check. Go to the gym today- no check. Two out of three is not that bad, right? Maybe tomorrow.

Today I ate the following:

Breakfast: One and a half eggs w/ ketchup and hot sauce.
Lunch: 4oz chicken with light mayo (ate a little over half)
Snack: 1/2 of an Atkins Milk Chocolate Protein Shake
Dinner: 4oz of chicken with light mayo (ate half) and 1oz of spinach w/ feta cheese (pureed)
Multivitamin (liquid) and 2 Viactiv Caramel chews

All in all I am happy with my food today, the spinach with feta pureed was a nice treat. I found the Atkins shake "ok", I think I need to maybe just try yogurt or cottage cheese for my snack. The protein shake is a big PITA.

Till tomorrow...taataa! I'm off to go watch an episode of Ghost Whisperer on Netflix with Josie and then I'm off to bed. Gnite!

Sunday, Funday!

Today I spent the majority of the day with my Mother and it was great. I love her so much and she does so much for me that there is no way I could show her how much I appreciate her in just one day. I am very close with my family and my family is very supportive of me in all of my endeavors. I love them so very much!

As for my food today I think I ate pretty well. I got in my water today, about 60oz, and am feeling better. I just need to make sure I keep drinking it. <taking sip right now>

For breakfast I had one and a half eggs scrambled with ketchup. For lunch I had chicken salad pureed up (chicken with several tablespoons of light mayo and hot sauce). For dinner I had the same chicken salad and one once of mashed potatoes. I am not finishing all of the chicken puree (serving myself about 3-4oz), but I am satisfied for several hours after the meal so I must be ok.

My Mom got me Atkins shakes at Wal-Mart today (160 cals, 10g fat, 15 g protein, 1g sugar). I am only concerned about the fat, but if they taste ok and have the protein I need while keeping calories and sugar in check it might not be that bad. I am really having a hard time finding a protein shake I like the taste of. Muscle Milk Light to me sucked. Today I tried another Protein Shake I got at Vitamin Shoppe and I thought that sucked. If I don't find something soon I am going to have to order the protein shakes I got for Pre-Surgery Diet online. So, hopefully Atkins shakes will be good and I will like them. And recommendations - under 180 calories, low fat, high protein, low sugar, and decent taste with out chalk consistency?

I am going to bed now, I have to get up early so I can make my pureed chicken salad for my lunch and my scrambled eggs for breakfast. It will be easier when I can just have hard boiled eggs, but maybe getting up at 5am is better.....it gives me time to eat my breakfast sitting down and allows me to take my time, which is important especially when I get fills.

Oh, tomorrow I am going to tell you all about my friend Steve agreeing to take me clamming and crabbing this summer, our garden plans, and our hopes to become great fishermen!

Goodnight...till manana!
